Cristina is a natural dyer (plus she practices some other really fascinating crafts like nalbinding), and so when she suggest we do a trade, I knew I’d be game!
She asked if I could draw a memorial portrait of their sweet little pug named Lucy, complete with diamonds and bananas (an inside joke!). So of course, I was delighted to help with that!
From the reference photos, I especially loved Lucy’s cute little eyes and her tongue that was always sticking out. She looks like she was such a character!! Here’s how her portrait turned out:
In return, Cristina dyed a set of silk scarves and peg people for Violet to play with. I have to say, I was BLOWN AWAY by the set she created for us!!
The colors are vibrant and stunning, and she dyed the wood and silk to match, so we can use these toys in a zillion open-ended ways over the years.
It’s such a special set, I actually saved it for a Christmas gift for Violet (which is why I’m just now blogging about this)!
The toys are a big hit, and I love knowing that when our baby boy is born in March, he can safely play with these silk scarves, too!! Such a special sensory toy.
Thanks again, Cristina, for trading with me! We’ll cherish these always, and I hope your portrait brings you all lots of smiles over the years 🙂
